Meet the Owner: From an Unexpected Conversation to a Career in Electrical

How long have you been an electrician?

I have been working in the electrical trade for 19 years. What started as an unexpected conversation eventually turned into a career that I am proud to have built.

What made you want to become an electrician?

Honestly, I did not really know what I wanted to do at first. I was trying to figure out my path when, believe it or not, I met someone at a barber shop who started talking to me about the different skilled trades. That conversation opened my eyes to opportunities that I had not really considered before. I learned more about the electrical trade, decided to give it a try, and continued moving forward from there.

Looking back, it is funny to think that a simple conversation at a barber shop would lead me to where I am today. Nineteen years later, I am still passionate about the electrical trade and proud to provide quality electrical services to my customers.

What made you choose electrical work over the other trades?

Electrical work was really the only trade that truly interested me. There was something about the electrical field that caught my attention, and the more I learned about it, the more I knew this was the trade for me.

What inspired you to start Crystal Lighting Electric Services?

Once I started working in the electrical trade, I learned my worth and understood the value of the knowledge and skills I had developed. I also knew that I could provide customers with great electrical service while maintaining a high level of knowledge, professionalism, and quality workmanship.

That gave me the confidence to start Crystal Lighting Electric Services and build a company based on those values. My goal has always been to provide customers with dependable service and quality electrical work they can trust.

What do you enjoy most about being an electrician?

I enjoy starting a project from the beginning and seeing it through to completion. Whether I am starting a project from scratch or troubleshooting an electrical problem and figuring out how to fix it, there is a real sense of fulfillment in knowing that I was able to make it happen.

Seeing a project come together because of the knowledge and skills I have developed over the years is one of the most rewarding parts of being an electrician.

What is the most memorable project you have ever worked on?

While I was in school, I had the opportunity to work on projects at DFW Airport and Cowboys Stadium. Being able to gain hands on experience at major facilities like these was a memorable part of my early career. Those experiences helped me develop my skills and gave me valuable experience that I continue to appreciate today.

What is the funniest or strangest thing you have found while working on a job?

One time, I thought there was a possum running around in an attic. I was preparing myself for the possibility of having to deal with an actual animal, only to discover that it was a Christmas deer decoration. It definitely was not the surprise I was expecting, but it made for a pretty funny story.

After 19 years in the trade, what keeps you passionate about electrical work?

The customers, new technology, and the opportunity to continue learning are what keep me passionate about electrical work. The electrical industry is constantly changing with new technology, updated electrical codes, and new ways of solving problems.

I enjoy staying engaged in the industry and continuing to learn new things. After 19 years in the trade, there is still something new to learn, and that is what keeps the work interesting and rewarding.
